After a very successful week, its always good to reflect on the progress we made. On Saturday the 26th of June, 12 young runners completed the Misbourne 5km trail run to raise money for the activities of the Alfan Foundation. We had some fantastic costumes, especially seeing Morgan Berrell run the entire 5km in a polar bear costume, which was very impressive.
The race itself was certainly a challenge, after a great downpour of rain prior to the event, it left much of the race track very muddy and left one or two of us slipping over every now and again. However, we all got back up with a smile on our faces and endured the conditions. During the 5km, the group of 12 runners split into small groups, as Oli Hunt and Joel Fryer and James Pettitt raced ahead, many of us enjoyed making conversation and for some, getting to know new people for the first time. The social aspect of running as a group of 12 certainly made the run more bearable.
As the race came to a close, Oli Hunt was our first runner back, finishing 11th in the entire race. Much to our surprise, as a group we had won 5 awards for our efforts. James Pettitt and Poppy Nutt won the fastest runners award in the Under 18's male and female category, while Elysia Pughe and Sam Wright won the 2nd place award for the Under 18's male and female category. Hannah Wright came 2nd in the Under 15's female category. These were fantastic acheivements, and certainly well deserved.
The unquestionable devotion of our runners was outstanding througout the event, which certainly reflects the attitudes of the Alfan Foundation. Everyone was determined not to give up - even if George was feeling a bit under the weather- and we can all definitely agree that this was a huge success.
However, its not over yet, as 4 more young runners will be training hard throughout the next week in order to compete in the High Wycombe 10km on the 10th of July in order to further raise funds for the Alfan foundation. Be sure to keep udated to this blog on our progress and our race event next Sunday.
